December 18, 2023 — Credence Founder and CEO Sid Chowdhary was presented a 2023 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, addressed the crowd and recognized the awardees and graduates during the Institute’s 69th convocation ceremony.
As the founder of one of the largest privately held government contracting firms in the United States, Mr. Chowdhary was honored for his contributions to business, technology, and to the Institute at large. Mr. Chowdhary received his Bachelor of Technology in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, one of India’s most prestigious academic institutions.
“I’m honored to receive this award from the institute that gave me my academic foundation and helped instill in me a commitment to excellence and service,” said Chowdhary. “That foundation helped me build a company that has been among the nation’s fastest growing private firms for 12 straight years.”
Born and raised in Assam, a region fraught with geo-political tensions during the 1980s, Chowdhary is one of the few founders from Assam to achieve this level of success globally, and he continues to serve as a mentor for Assamese youths. He also served as a board member of PanIIT USA from 2009 – 2014 and is the chairman of the 2024 PanIIT USA Global Conference, which will take place in Washington, DC in January.
