Faithfully engaging others toward a more just society and planet. That’s the role of the Social Action Committee (SAC). The SAC works with Resource Teams, Associations, Churches, and People of the Maine Conference to help promote their engagement in social action.
What We Do
SAC initiates new social action endeavors on behalf of the Conference, such as opposing LD 926 of the 130th Maine Legislature which would have forced trans girls to defend their gender identity publicly if they wanted to participate in school sports. The SAC also offered testimony in support of LD 1626, a bill to enhance Tribal Sovereignty in Maine . In the winter of 21/22 we offered an online series of 3 workshops: “Organizing for Social Action in the Local Church”, “Immigration and ‘Loving Your Neighbor’”, and “Climate Change”. The SAC also serves as the clearing house for resolutions brought before the Maine Conference Annual Meeting.
