ENVIRONMENTAL

SUSTAINABILITY

As a fast-growing company, Credence believes we have a responsibility to look for ways to reduce our emissions. Consistent with our Environment Management System (EMS – ISO 14001), we take pride in the steps we have taken to comply with Scopes 1, 2, and 3 of the Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) protocol. The Credence Green Committee, which includes representatives across the company, considers ways to help protect our environment.

Credence Environmental Commitment
Credence has established an Environmental Management System to support:

  • Reducing our emissions
  • Limiting resource use and protecting ecosystems
  • Conforming to applicable legislative, regulatory, and compliance obligations
  • Continually monitoring and minimizing our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions

Our main areas of emphasis include commuting, facility energy use, recycling efforts, IT operations, purchasing, and business travel.

Scope 1 — Direct Emissions

Company Facility:
Credence does not own the buildings in which our employees work, but we do look for the ways to minimize energy usage within our spaces by using motion-sensor LED lights and window blinds that help regulate the sun coming into office windows.

Company Vehicles:
We do not provide company vehicles but encourage our employees to use public transportation when possible and commute using fuel-efficient vehicles. Many of our office spaces have electrical vehicle charging stations.

Scope 2 — Indirect Emissions

Electricity Usage:
The heating and cooling in the building is controlled by the building management company, but we use motion sensing LED lighting to reduce our power consumption and the restrooms employ water saving features.

In the office, employees have access to filtered water, reusable cups, and coffee machines. There are dedicated receptacles for office waste recycling including paper, aluminum, cardboard, and plastics. Complying with NIST SP 800-171 Control MP. L1-3.8.3, Credence uses a certified local vendor to dispose of and recycle computers, printer equipment, and other devices. Networked copy machines default to two-sided printing to reduce paper use, and we ensure that copy machine toner cartridges are returned/recycled and reused.

Scope 3 — Indirect Emissions

Purchasing Goods & Services and Capital Goods:
Purchased goods and services includes all the upstream ("cradle to gate") emissions from the production of goods and services purchased by Credence in the same year. It is useful to differentiate between purchases of production-related products (e.g. materials, components, and parts) and non-production-related products (e.g. office furniture, office supplies, and IT support).

Capital goods are final products that have an extended life and are used by Credence to provide a service to their customers. Examples of capital goods include vehicles and equipment. To calculate the carbon emissions, Credence accounted for the total cradle-to-gate emissions of purchased capital goods in the year of acquisition.

Business Travel & Employee Commuting:
In the pursuit of meeting our customer goals, Credence employees travel to their locations to perform the work. At the onset of pandemic, Credence realized the need of two key driving factors in the business: flexible working (work from home) and reduction in employee commuting (virtual meetings). Credence has been able to efficiently switch over from in-person attendance at the office to a telework model, and now to a hybrid model of work. All these happened with zero impact to the customer mission and resulted in positive impacts on carbon emissions.

Environmental Stewardship
We are improving our operations in the areas of greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and waste management.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions
We currently measure our Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually. Credence’s targeted annual projection is sufficiently aggressive, and it has been aligned with the criteria of the SBTi. Those criteria require emissions reductions of 4.2% per year for targets that cover Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and emissions reductions of 2.5% per year for targets that cover Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
